Sony has begun negotiations with director Josh Trank to make a Venom film.
Before you think Sony will ruin the character in a spin-off, just like what was seen in "Spider-Man 3" according to many fans, here is an opinion to share regarding what Sony should be planning.
Think of what Marvel Studios has done with "The Avengers" film and all the movies that led to this summer. Marvel took each character and provided a stand-alone film in order to set-up the larger, ensemble film.
This is exactly what Sony should do for Venom and Spider-Man and since they are already rebooting the web slinger with this summer's "The Amazing Spider-Man," and now is a great time to consider this proposal.
Spidey has his reboot, then Venom has his reboot as a stand alone film. Eventually, you have both films feed off of each other in their respective films—just how "The Avengers" have made cameos in several of their stand-alone films. This will all lead up to one larger film where both Spider-Man and Venom face-off.
In the Venom film(s), he could birth Carnage and the anti-hero would fight him, then both would face-off against Spidey in the bigger ensemble film. It seems to be a great way to mix the characters together in order to build up anticipation for the larger film.
Just thinking outside of the box with this possibility and suggestion. Hopefully Sony comes across this idea and uses it, but this journalist calls dibs on some royalties for the idea though.
