Only a couple weeks ago, after The Avengers premiered in Los Angeles, Marvel said they will not have a sequel to The Incredible Hulk because The Avengers would have been better than anything they could have put into a sequel for the Hulk.
That was then and this is now since Marvel Entertainment's Paul Gitter has confirmed a Hulk sequel could now be in play for 2015.
"We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner," Gitter said to Forbes. "If Hulk’s successful turnaround continues, Gitter says Marvel 'will spin him off to a stand-alone program next year,' supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015."
You read that right. The Hulk will get some kind of "stand-alone program" (probably a television show) followed by a stand-alone sequel to 2008's The Incredible Hulk.
Part of the reason for this sudden change of heart is due to fan reaction to not only the Green Goliath on the big screen smashing everything in sight—by those who have already seen an early screening of The Avengers—but also due to actor Mark Ruffalo's terrific performance as Hulk's alter ego Bruce Banner.
Stay tuned to The Daily SuperHero as more information is made available on the potential Hulk sequel.
***UPDATE 4/30 4:51 p.m. ET: Ruffalo has confirmed to Collider he has indeed signed a six-movie deal with Marvel Studios, so look for a Hulk sequel and more appearances in other stand-alone Marvel films too.***
