Ever since Ben Kingsley was cast as a villain for Iron Man 3, there has been speculation he would be playing the Mandarin. This has been shrouded in secrecy without any definitive confirmation. Until now.
Per sources who are on location and via ComicBook.com, it is officially being said Kingsley will indeed play the Mandarin. However, he will will play more of a pivotal role as the man who is controlling events in the third Iron Man film in the background. Mandarin will get some screen time, but it seems he is more of the mastermind and less of a physical threat to Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Even though the film's plot is loosely based after Warren Ellis' Extremis story arc, in the comics, it appears the term loosely is the best way to define Iron Man 3. The Mandarin was not in the Extremis story, nor was Eric Savin (played by James Badge Dale) who has been seen wearing the Iron Patriot suit of armor as well.
With an increased budget of $140 million to $200 million by the studio, you can bet Iron Man 3 will be a huge big screen spectacle. Stay tuned to The Daily SuperHero as the information has sprung a full leak on-set at the North Carolina production.
