Rumors can be a funny thing. Take for instance the rumor saying how Marvel Studios was targeting actor Viggo Mortensen to possibly play Doctor Strange on the big screen. This rumor has been generating a tremendous amount of online buzz the past week-plus and Marvel has finally stepping in to talk about it.
“We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen,” Marvel executive Victoria Alonso said per Collider. “I’ve been trying that for years. But I don’t know if Viggo is even acting anymore. I thought he wasn’t acting anymore. It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don’t have him signed, no.”
No where in this mash-up of words and sentences is there a definitive "Yes" or "No" answer by Alonso. Also, Mortensen has not retired. Over the past three years, he has had films released in each except for in 2010 when he most likely took a break.
In our opinion, it sounds like Alonso should have done more research on Mortensen before fielding any questions about the rumor. Because right now it sounds like Mortensen could be in the running to play Doctor Strange now that Marvel's own executive cannot get her facts straight. Food for thought...
