IRON MAN 3: Hasbro Source Says Conversations About Expanding Iron Man's Movie Toy Line Are Occurring
Back in the beginning of April, and a month before Iron Man 3 hit theaters, we wrote an opinion post talking about how bad the toy line is for Iron Man 3, specifically for the adult collectors. It is starting to sound like Hasbro might have been listening to us.
First, there's a new figure that was just announced but here's some quick background. Hasbro has announced an addition to the 6-inch Iron Man 3 Legends figure line. The first series is currently on store shelves right now and consist of comic book versions of Iron Man and Iron Patriot. A second series is coming very soon and will have movie version of the Mark 42 suit, a movie version of the Iron Patriot suit and a comic book version of the robotic villain Ultron. All figures in these two series come with a Build-A-Figure piece to create a gigantic Iron Monger figure.
Now Hasbro is adding a movie version of the Mandarin to the Iron Man 3 Legends action figure line (check out the image below). No word on if it will be the first figure in a third series or if it might be a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive this summer. Bottom line is that Hasbro might have started to hear the cries of fans who want more movie-based character action figures from this movie.
After reaching out to a source, who is close to Hasbro, The Daily SuperHero was also told the following:
In theory, this is great news! Hopefully, it means an articulated 3 3/4-inch figure line is coming.
Now that Iron Man 3 is out in theaters, fans are clamoring for better action figures based on the new movie and Hasbro has an opportunity to capitalize on the demand for figures like: Extremis-powered Aldrich Killian, Extremis soldiers, all of (or most of) Tony Stark's new suits of armor and not to mention a chance to finally get a Pepper Potts figure.
Or maybe a Happy Hogan figure with a chase variant version that has a mullet. Or even a variant Mandarin figure of Trevor Slattery looking drunk and with two beers. Ha!
If the source is correct—and let's be honest in saying there is no reason to not be right since the IM3 toy line stinks—it's only a matter of time until Hasbro makes some kind of announcement (probably at SDCC). But it is also sounding like those potential Iron Man 3 figures might not be ready to hit shelves until early 2014. In other words, Hasbro could fail to bring Iron Man fans the figures they want right now since we're talking about a figure release that could be 8-10 months away.
At least The Wolverine and Thor: The Dark World will have 3 3/4-inch movie figures, which has already been announced at Toy Fair this past February. Stick to articulated 3 3/4-inch movie action figures Hasbro, your customers demand it.

"At this moment, we cannot comment anything more than what has already been said on the addition of the Mandarin to the Iron Man 3 Legends line but we can say that there are discussions occurring about adding to the movie line with more articulated figures. Nothing is certain right now."
