IRON MAN 3 Theory: Could Tony Stark Have Extremis in His Body Now?

Iron Man 3 has been in theaters for over a month so there is no need for a SPOILER ALERT anymore but still... if you haven't seen it, you probably don't want to read this until after you do.

It is now known that Tony Stark has removed his chest arc reactor at the end of Iron Man 3 and doctors removed all the tiny pieces of shrapnel. Some fans have questioned why didn't Stark just have this surgery done right away? He's filthy, stinkin' rich so it's not like he couldn't afford it.

So how is it that Stark could finally remove those tiny pieces of death? This is just one writer's theory but there is a good chance that Stark might have injected himself with a little bit of Extremis.

Before jumping to conclusions and screaming at this theory, please hear it out first.

In Iron Man 3, the audience is told how Stark nearly fixed the explosive problem Extremis had while drunk in the 1999 flashback sequence. Then at the end of the movie, Stark implies that he was able to fix the explosion issue along with finding a cure to remove Extremis from Pepper Potts.

Now when you think about what we already know about the movie version of Extremis it's that it has a healing factor. A very remarkable healing factor that can actually rebuild lost body parts. Too bad Dr. Curt Connors couldn't get his hands on that part of the Extremis equation for his work in The Amazing Spider-Man. Just sayin'.

Seriously though, Stark was finally able to remove the shrapnel and his chest arc at the end of the movie and perhaps that explanation is due to the fact he has now injected himself with a small portion of Extremis in order to help his own healing factor. This could've been done to help him survive going under the knife. How else is that giant divot in his chest going to heal?

A connection to this theory is the fact that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed Extremis will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a Twitter Q&A on May 10.

Maybe this theory is correct, or completely wrong. But until we see Stark on the big screen again this might be one of only a few logical theories you'll see trying to explain this in Iron Man 3. At the very least this will get the debate machine churning.
