THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: Pre-CGI Rhino Analyzed by Digital Graphic Artists

If you haven't seen actor Paul Giamatti on set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a pre-CGI Rhino, here's your chance to catch up.

In the images provided and standing in a giant wheeled contraption, Giamatti was facing toward Spider-Man who had a megaphone while standing on top of a police car. Spidey appears to be taunting Rhino in this scene.

Taking a closer look at the apparatus Giamatti is in the first thing noticed is the height of the whole thing. We're looking at a villain who is approximately 10-12 feet tall.

Next the eyes are drawn to those black and yellow dots. This is where The Daily SuperHero's limited knowledge of special effects stops and several digital graphic artists were contacted.

Out of the four artists contacted, three of them agreed those dots are markers and points of interest for the CGI crew. Those three also agreed that the marker on the top and above Giamatti's head is said to represent placement of Rhino's horn.

Two of the four said the location where Giamatti's face is at will probably be right where Rhino's actual face will be. One artist said nothing about face placement and the other said it's not likely that Rhino's face will be in that spot.

One of the digital artists did mention the black and yellow markers next to Giamatti's head could be the eye placement, while another said the markers at the top sides next to where the horn might be could be the eyes, and the markers next to the actor's head could be part of the lower jaw suggesting the actor's face is actually in the mouth.

There was a surprising comment by one artist who said he thinks there's a chance the Rhino could be mechanical/robotic. Possibly a suit a la an Iron Man suit.

Rhino's original origin had him as part of an experiment that bonded a polymer to his skin and this drastically changed his strength and speed. Then in Marvel's Ultimate universe, Rhino is an experimental suit of armor which is stolen from the U.S. Government. Hmm...

Whether Rhino is to be a suit or a skin polymer remains to be seen but it is starting to sound like Spider-Man's foe could be an Iron Man influenced "Iron Monger, Part 2."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
