STAR WARS Rumor: Ewan McGregor Should Come Back as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode VII and a Spin-Off Movie

Star Wars Episode VII is two years away from releasing and even through Disney pretty much "dropped the ball" on creating more hype about the next movie at their D23 Expo last weekend, the rumor mill is churning out lots of speculation and theories right now. Even one of The Daily SuperHero's own Hollywood insiders has said that development and pre-production is being closely guarded, while other websites are reporting rumors from their own sources too.

The website Latino-Review reports that actor Ewan McGregor may reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the next Star Wars movie as the Force ghost of an older Kenobi. Now this makes sense. McGregor was by far the best acting performance of all cast members in the prequel trilogy and is one of, if not the, reason to see the prequels. His embodiment of a younger Sir Alec Guiness was (scarily) perfect and the character is one of the most iconic Star Wars characters in the movie saga.

By the end of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the plot set up the fact that Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn had found a way to become one with the Force after his death. He was able to contact Jedi Master Yoda to teach the elder Jedi the way to becoming one with the Force. Yoda then went into seclusion, after the events of Episode III, as did Kenobi and both learned through Jinn how to become one with the Force which led to see them as Force ghosts in the original trilogy.

Also, Latino-Review mentioned McGregor is interested in having his own standalone Star Wars movie as Kenobi. Again, a great idea if Disney and Lucasfilm are considering it since the actor can easily be a leading man in a film... as he was in the prequels anyway.

Whether or not this rumor becomes fact is to be determined but this is one of those rumors that should get serious consideration as a part of Disney's plan to have solo Star Wars movies in 2016, 2018 and 2020. But don't wait too long for a potential Kenobi solo movie because McGregor is not getting any younger, at his current age of 42.
