Unfortunately, fans of Thor will not get any building sets based on this November's Thor: The Dark World for unknown reasons. Also, per one of The Daily SuperHero's insiders at LEGO it's starting to sound like next year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier won't get any LEGO sets either. (Boo.)
Yet in 2014 fans and collectors will see new LEGO sets. According to the LEGO fan site, All About Bricks, new LEGO Marvel sets are indeed coming.
"For Marvel there will be three Spider-Man sets, including additional heroes and villains, released in March. There will also be two sets based on The Avengers.
"In July there will be more Marvel sets, this time based on Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men to coincide with the release of the respective movies."
The Spider-Man sets could also be based on Ultimate Spider-Man but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does come out next May. If two new Avengers sets do release, then Marvel is seriously milking their biggest movie for everything its got before Avengers: Age of Ultron hit theaters in May 2015.
What is a bit surprising is that Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men could be getting new sets! Could the X-Men set be based off of X-Men Days of Future Past? Or perhaps a new X-Men cartoon that has been rumored to possibly be in the works for 2014? Or maybe it'll just be based off some great X-Men comic book moments. Disney controls Marvel's licensing with LEGO so it's doubtful any LEGO Marvel set will be based on movie properties Disney does not own because Disney doesn't want to share any licensing money with Sony or 20th Century Fox.
While all of this is considered rumor right now, this is the first anyone has heard about LEGO Marvel sets in 2014. Stay tuned as more information is sure to be released (or leak) as the 2013 calendar year comes to a close.
