STAR WARS Standalone Movies to be "Origin Story" Films; Han Solo, Yoda, Boba Fett Still Top Rumored Contenders

Disney chief financial officer Jay Rasulo spoke at an investor conference on Thursday and talked some Star Wars. The CFO talked about the new trilogy but didn't divulge any new information that wasn't already known. However, he did let a bit of new info slip regarding the planned Star Wars solo movies that will release in between the new trilogy film releases.

Rasulo, according to Variety, referred to the standalone movies as an "origin story film." In other words any Star Wars character currently known, who fans don't know his/her origin story, are now targeted for a solo movie by Disney... and the rumor mill, of course.

This is an assumption but out or the mix is probably Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has been previously rumored to possibly have a spin-off movie but fans already know his origin story which was told during Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Plus, if Kenobi returns in the new trilogy as a Force ghost, actor Ewan McGregor will be committed to the new trilogy and won't have time to fit another Star Wars film into what will be a very busy filming schedule for several straight years for the new trilogy.

A very large stable of characters still exist where origin stories can be told in a full length feature film. Several contenders, who has also been rumored for a solo Star Wars movies in the past, that could still be in contention for a standalone feature are Han Solo and Yoda. And there's always the chance of a Boba Fett origin film, which could showcase the rising of the young Fett into becoming the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy. (Yes please!)

A lot of this is all speculation based on Rasulo's comment at the investor conference but an "origin story film" is as clear-cut tease about Star Wars' standalone movie plans. Stay tuned because the rumor mill is surely going to be churning out some new rumors about solo movies very soon.
