THE WOLVERINE Actor Hugh Jackman Says Logan's Curse is His Berserker Rage

On December 3, The Wolverine will be available on store shelves everywhere in the United States. Already the second highest grossing X-Men film (worldwide) of all-time, in 20th Century Fox's X-franchise, director James Mangold is now drafting a script treatment for another installment of the Hugh Jackman standalone franchise.

In The Wolverine, the biggest story line for Logan is how he is dealing with losing everyone close to him due to his virtual immortality via his healing factor. Being over 200-years-old and seeing many people live and die is a hard thing for Logan to deal with. So he's looking for a way out of his cursed mutant ability. By the end of the film, Logan has a new purpose in his life and no longer sees his mutant ability as a curse.

According to star Hugh Jackman, in an interview with Daily Star, Logan' curse has evolved.

"[In The Wolverine] We explore... what it is like to live forever when you really don’t want to live, when you have lost the reason or the meaning of life... And with the immortality, everyone he loves dies—everyone who has ever meant anything to him has passed on. What sort of life is that?"

Jackman details why Logan's berserker rage is his curse.

"Really, his main curse is this beserker rage. It is what defines him... He doesn’t have the most powerful powers—on paper his powers aren’t that incredible if you think of other mutants who would probably have the upper hand. He can’t jump, he can’t fly; he has claws and he can heal but he is probably the most feared or powerful in a way because of that very human quality of his inner beserker rage. That animalistic side of him gives him power and strength but it also causes damage, loss and pain."

Next up for Logan is X-Men Days of Future Past and this berserker rage will surely be on display in the ensemble film. X-Men Days of Future Past releases in theaters on May 23, 2014.
