The mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World was full of weird and strange. Starting with random artifacts scattered throughout the scene, but none was weirder than Benicio del Toro's performance as Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a The Collector. In the comics, Tivan is an Elder of the Universe who is immortal and very powerful. And, of course, he likes to collect things. You probably would start doing collecting stuff too if you were an immortal being.
Obviously this mid-credits scene is the set-up for Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the biggest Easter Egg was easily the announcement to Marvel fans everywhere that the Infinity Stones are the new—and perhaps biggest ever in film—MacGuffin(s) for the remainder of Phase 2, throughout Phase 3 and most likely ending in a climax in The Avengers 3. (Which might as well have the working title 'Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet' moving forward.)
Now that we all know the Aether and Tesseract are two of the six Infinity Stones—adapted from being known as gems in the comic universe—Thanos' screen time for more than just a head turn and smile is coming very quick. Starting with a minimal appearance in next summer's Guardians of the Galaxy.
By the way, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed the Tesseract is the Space Stone and it is assumed the Aether is the Power Stone. This leaves the Mind (Loki's scepter in The Avengers maybe?), Soul, Time and Reality Stones left to be found in the remaining Phase 2 films and post-Avengers: Age of Ultron, in Phase 3 movies.

With all that being said and out of the way, another interesting Easter Egg might have been uncovered by ScreenRant.com. For a quick second, a cocoon-like object was seen in Tivan's collection room during the mid-credits scene. Screen Rant wrote:
"What does stand out among the various objects is the rather sizable tank containing what looks to be a large object of both organic and mechanical design. It's been suggested that the item is in fact Adam Warlock's famous cocoon, from which the troubled man was reborn with a new purpose, and an irrevocable link to the Soul Gem - set to play a major part in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
So far, it's hard to confirm whether the cocoon is in fact Warlock's, since it isn't visible in its entirety. But given Joss Whedon's affection for the character, we wouldn't be surprised to see Warlock emerge in the near future."
Very, very interesting observation seeing as how Adam Warlock has involvement in the Infinity Gauntlet story arc in the comics universe. Warlock was revived for the Infinity Gauntlet mini-series and played a major role in the comics event. Plus, Warlock was a part of the mid-2000s reboot of the Guardians of the Galaxy team which the film is taking some of it's basis off of but this isn't implying he will be in Guardians.
How Warlock might be a part of the big screen adapted version of the Infinity Gauntlet story arc is unknown until more information is available. But if this cocoon Easter Egg in the mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World is indeed the same cocoon from the comics where Warlock was reborn with new purpose, then look for Warlock to once again have a role in Thanos' quest to acquire all the Infinity Stones on the big screen.
