Most of the original generation of Star Wars fans hated the prequels, the younger generation prefer them mostly due to the better graphics and effects. However, when you hire an original trilogy fan like J.J. Abrams to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VII—along with Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi scribe Lawrence Kasdan—you may get some changes from what was told in the prequel trilogy.
While Star Wars creator George Lucas could possibly be twitching at the thought of adapting past movie stories into something brand new for future films... he really doesn't have a say in any of it after selling Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise to Disney at the end of 2012. And this seems like what Kasdan may be doing in his as-of-yet-officially-announced Star Wars spin-off of the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.
Even though Disney and Lucasfilm have not officially confirmed a Boba Fett movie, it seems like the most probable solo film to happen being that the bounty hunter has been a fan favorite for decades. However, what you know about the anti-hero might be changed for his solo outing. According to the website Latino-Review, their sources claim Kasdan's Boba Fett origin story will be different than that of the young Boba from the prequel trilogy, along with the solo film having a potential target release of 2018.
"To counteract the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan... spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale... someone kills Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. [In other words, it seems like] Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Boba Fett clone in the spin-off film."
Again, Lucas himself would probably say no to this adaptation from what many assumed was the younger Boba actually being the same one in the original trilogy films but he has no say except from a consultant position. It does need to be noted that Lucasfilm has a huge database of all-things Star Wars and its continuity. So if there's one thing they won't effect it's the continuity of the Star Wars universe. But every once and a while an idea comes up that can be easily inserted into the continuity and won't change it much. An example of this is the return of Darth Maul in the animated series Star Wars The Clone Wars from his demise at the end of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
Having the younger clone version of Boba "unalived" by a stranger who then takes the name and armor is definitely something that is feasible to fit into franchise continuity. And when this hardcore Star Wars fan thinks about more and more, it is a pretty interesting twist and pitch for a Boba Fett film.
