With the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International days away, Johnson has once again hinted at his future as a DC character. This time around he dropped a teaser bomb that might have revealed he's going to be Shazam.
The Rock talked to Total Film about his future DC role and said:
“There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce very soon, that I’m going to play, and…I’ll just say this, he has the power of Superman, and it’s not Green Lantern, by the way. And believe me, John Stewart, he was a character I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so we’ve gone in a different direction. But this character has the power of Superman, he can throw down…just say the word. That’s all I’m going say.”
"Just say the word" is a huge hint because in order for Shazam to gain his power in the comics, all he has to do is say the word "SHAZAM!" Seems like a logical fit for Johnson since he also commented on how his DNA is wired a certain way which implies the fact he is a large, physically built human being. Shazam has been around since 1939, then he was known as Captain Marvel, and at one point in the 1940s he was a more popular super hero than Superman. Read more about Shazam over on DC's website by clicking right here.
Shazam is rumored to be one of several new movies to be announced by Warner Bros. at Comic-Con this week as part of their rumored 3-movies-per-year plan. Stay tuned as more info about The Rock, Shazam and other DC movies is sure to be coming later this week!
