Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release in theaters and it is projecting to make around $65-$75 million in its domestic opening weekend and means Marvel Studios will have their 10th blockbuster hit in a row. Marvel has already felt the buzz around the release Guardians of the Galaxy and officially announced they have green lit a sequel to release on July 28, 2017. The sequel will bring back director James Gunn, who will also write it as well.
What's next could be considered as SPOILERS if you haven't seen Guardians yet. You've been warned.
Gunn has already begun developing his ideas for the next adventure for Marvel's space team and FilmDivider.com landed some quotes about the early development process that includes larger roles for Drax, Nebula and Yondu.
"I know a lot of where I want to go [with Guardians 2]. I have a lot of ideas for stories and characters that are going to appear, and there are documents written up, that some people have, about Peter Quill’s father and his relationship, a lot of stuff about Yondu and a lot of stuff about Drax that nobody knows.
"There are a lot of things that are part of the overall schematic that already exist, not to mention a lot of stuff about all of the cultures. There’s a lot of stuff about Xandarian and Kree culture that I’ve written down or I have in my head, as well as Krylorians and Ravagers.
"I think Yondu is a very important character, a really important character in this universe, and I think Nebula is really important too and so I think we’ll see more of both of those characters."
While not revealing much at all, it is safe to assume that actors Karen Gillan and Michael Rooker will be back to reprise their respective roles of Nebula and Yondu. And of course Dave Bautista will be back as Drax the Destroyer too.
