ANT-MAN: Paul Rudd's Scott Lang Will be Similar to the Comics as He is an Ex-Con, a Thief and Has a Daughter

Some of the following information was already known (or assumed) about actor Paul Rudd's character of Scott Lang in Marvel's Ant-Man movie. In an interview with Screen Rant, via io9.com, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed spoke briefly about Lang.

And there are definitely similarities between the comic book universe version of the character and the one Rudd will portray.

"Thematic arc really is a sort of passing-of-the-torch movie… Rudd's character [Scott Lang] is an ex-con, a thief. It's also got the structure of a heist movie. And there's also a real personal dynamic to the movie, too. In the comics, Scott Lang has a daughter, and that's part of the movie, too."

In the comics, Lang is a thief who goes to jail for a few years and then cleans his act up. However, Lang then steals Pym's Ant-Man suit in order to commit crimes so he can help pay for the health care his daughter Cassie Lang needs when she becomes very sick. An honorable deed done by a reformed criminal facing desperate times.

How all of this is adapted into a "passing-of-the-torch movie" with Michael Douglas' Hank Pym handing over the mantle of Ant-Man to Lang is unknown right now. Will Lang steal the Ant-Man suit from Pym as he does in the comics? Fans will have to patiently wait for these answers.

Ant-Man starts filming on August 18 in San Francisco and Atlanta and releases in theaters on July 17, 2015.
