Marvel fans got their first glimpse of how weirdly cool Guardians of the Galaxy would be in the post credits scene of Thor: The Dark World, which was directed by James Gunn. In this scene, Lady Sif and Volstagg deliver the Aether to The Collector and in the background a giant cocoon is seen.
Immediately, fans assumed the cocoon was similar to the one in the comic book universe for Adam Warlock. And those fans were right! This has been confirmed by Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director Gunn, who verified it on a podcast with EmpireOnline.com (via Yahoo! News UK).
In the comics and in television appearances, Warlock is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now with Gunn confirming the Warlock cocoon, and already being attached to write and direct it Guardians of the Galaxy 2, fans will surmise that Warlock could be a new member of the team in the sequel. Especially since — Guardians of the Galaxy post credits scene SPOILER ALERT! — you can barely see that the cocoon is open in the background.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to release in theaters on July 28, 2017.
