CAPTAIN AMERICA 3: Robert Downey Jr. in Final Negotiations as IRON MAN as Civil War Story Arc Begins on Film

It seems like Robert Downey Jr.'s confusing talk has ended as Variety is now reporting the actor is in final negotiations to appear as Tony Stark and Iron Man in Captain America 3. This is also the beginning of Civil War in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

WOW!

Based on the comic book story arc from 2006, Civil War focused on the Superhero Registration Act that Stark supported and Captain America opposed. Heroes chose sides and battles were fought.

Variety also reports:

"The deal is significant for the Marvel cinematic universe considering the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities.
"Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in 'Captain America 3,' providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth 'Avengers.'"

Obviously, there seems to be some fallout after Avengers: Age of Ultron and a Registration Act means Stark and Rogers will stand on opposite sides of this Civil War. This also means a "New Avengers" team will need to be assembled in the MCU and that means new team additions like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and other new heroes who should be getting their own solo movie sooner than later now.

If you weren't excited for Marvel's Phase 3 of their movie universe, you should be now because this could also mean all those Spider-Man rumors about Sony letting Marvel Studios use him in future MCU films could become truth as well. Spider-Man had a large role in the comic book story arc and his inclusion in a future MCU film would only make sense if the two studios are willing to work together with the character.
