Marvel's Doctor Strange has a director attached, Scott Derrickson, and a writer, Jon Spaihts. Marvel Studios has not officially announced a release date for Doctor Strange because it is rumored that they want a leading actor attached to make both announcements at the same time. It is assumed the film will release on July 8, 2016.
Derrickson took to his Twitter account to report that he is now working at the Disney lot. He also included an animated gif which is quite supernatural and it is assumed to be a reference to him now working on Doctor Strange.
I now work on the Disney lot.

Derrickson is well into the development stage of Doctor Strange. Representation told The Daily SuperHero that the director cannot say anything regarding Doctor Strange or even anything related to comic books until further notice. It was also told to me that Derrickson is not talking to any media right now regarding any current or future movies he may or may not be working on.
Translation: Yes, Derrickson is currently working on pre-production for Marvel's Doctor Strange, which is rumored to shoot at Pinewood-Shepperton Studios in the U.K. in spring/summer 2015.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix recently stepped out of contention for the leading role and previous actors who have been heavily rumored for the role were (or are once again) Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy. Marvel Studios is currently still searching for its leading actor, so new names could be added to this list very soon.
Stay tuned.
