SPIDER-MAN: Does Sony Have a Clue? Rumors Imply They Might Not and VENOM Might Not Happen Either

Spider-Man has been a hot topic over the last 24 hours. A report hit the web claiming Sony could be talking with Marvel Studios for a deal that would allow Marvel to use Spider-Man in their Marvel Cinematic Universe. (As I said, if true, it would most likely only be for large ensemble films and in a supporting role, not a leading role.)

Today, over on BadassDigest.com, they claim that this has only been one of the many rumors they've been hearing about Spidey's future with Sony this past week. Here's what they have reported:

"- Sony is going to soft reboot Spider-Man with The Sinister Six, having a new actor playing a Spidey who works with the villains 'The Dirty Dozen' style to take down a larger threat.

- Sony is going to put Spider-Man on the shelf for four or five years and see if they can develop any of the side characters into their own franchises.

-I've also heard that Venom is functionally dead again.
These are three wildly divergent stories, and I'm not sure if any of them are true or if all of them are true. I actually lean towards 'all of them' because that fits into the larger narrative of 'Sony has no clue what to do next.' I think that plans for Spider-Man change as the wind blows in Culver City, and that Marvel Studios could be taking advantage of this fact - as well as the fact that Sony is not doing so great in the movie business these days."

While Sony has yet to comment on any of this, it needs to be said that it's all rumors... for now. However, if there's this much talk going on in Hollywood insider circles then it's a safe bet that something is going to happen with Spider-Man and Sony. What that could be remains a mystery right now.

Definitely stay tuned because this story is developing fast.
