Will Sony Share a Bed With Marvel Studios and Let Them Use SPIDER-MAN? It's All Rumor Until a Studio Confirms it
Marvel fans have heard this speculation before and many still hold hope that it actually happens in the near future. Could Sony and Marvel Studios share a bed together with the Spider-Man movie rights? This is one of the most talked about and lingering questions by fans and by the movie media over the past year.
Rumors and rumblings and whispers in the wind have been reported that there's the slightest chance of this happening and once again another report has come out saying it another time. HitFix writes:
"While I can't get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I'm hearing that there are some very cool 'Spider-Man' plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom's minds. Will it work out? I don't know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it's happening. What seems clear from what I've heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again."
This will certainly trigger a ton of hope in the Marvel fanbase. However, and this is simply a reminder, than Sony has all the power with Spider-Man because they hold his movie rights so until Sony makes an official statement about this it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Not to sound like a broken record but this has been heard before. But now it sounds like (here comes my own speculation) Sony could let Marvel Studios use Spider-Man in ensemble films and only in a supporting role, while Sony maintains Spidey's movies rights to do as they want with his solo features and all Spider-Man spin-off movies.
Regardless, it would be so awesome to see Spider-Man standing next to Iron Man and the Avengers in a movie. Just thinking about that too much may cause me to need a clean pair of pants, so I will digress.
