GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: James Gunn Officially Says No That Wasn't BETA RAY BILL in THE COLLECTOR's Lair

Was it him or not? This is a question that's been debated online, at water coolers and in bars since Guardians of the Galaxy released in theaters over the summer.

Was that Beta Ray Bill chilling in The Collector's lair in Guardians of the Galaxy?

It appeared to possibly be the Korbinite warrior, who stood toe-to-toe with Thor in the comic book universe and he was even worthy enough to lift Thor's hammer Mjolnir — and he then got his own enchanted hammer from Odin, called Stormbreaker. It looked like an orange-skinned alien with a red cape on in the scene, but it was not Beta Ray Bill.

And here's the official word from director James Gunn, who answered a fan comment on Twitter and finally put the debate to rest that it is not whom fans thought it was.

And before you say, "Then that was Beta Ray Bill's race in the beginning scene when Star-Lord was dancing on Morag," that may not be true either unless the alien race has been adapted for film. In the comic book universe, Beta Ray Bill is a Korbinite which is a race of orange-skinned humanoids who have a round head and face like humans. Beta Ray Bill was enhanced and modified by Korbinite scientists which caused his head to become horse-like in shape. So unless that is a dead Beta Ray Bill on Morag, which is doubtful, that would be the only way that could be his skeleton.

So there you have it... it was not Beta Ray Bill and upon further review, from my couch, you can clearly tell whoever that is in The Collector's collection is wearing a red body suit and not a red cape (see image below). Sorry Beta Ray Bill fans, maybe he'll show up in Thor: Ragnarok.

Guardians of the Galaxy is available on digital HD download on November 18 and releases on Blu Ray and DVD on December 9.
