Warner Bros. officially announced the cast for Suicide Squad today. President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production for Warner Bros. Pictures Greg Silverman made the announcement for the third film in DC Entertainment's movie universe after Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Let's dive right into the casting announcements!
Right off the bat let's start with the biggest actor name. Will Smith is Deadshot, who is an assassin and a deadly marksman.
Next up is 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto who will step into the shoes of the Joker. A huge challenge after Heath Ledger's amazing Oscar performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight Rises' villain Bane, Tom Hardy, will be Rick Flagg. Flag is an elite soldier and the leader of the Suicide Squad. Rounding out the cast will be Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one," Silverman said in the announcement of the cast. "David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Suicide Squad releases in theaters on August 5, 2016.
