Marvel's SPIDER-MAN: Rumor Claims it Won't be Peter Parker Even Though Official Press Release Says Otherwise

Sometimes a rumor makes you scratch your head regardless of where it comes from. This is the case with a new Spider-Man rumor. Will it be Peter Parker or Miles Morales?

According to one of TheWrap's reporters, Jeff Sneider, (via Collider and Meet The Press Podcast) it will not be Parker.

“Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not gonna be white. Spider-Man is not going to be white … I am 95 percent sure. Spider-Man’s gonna be, most likely, black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95 percent sure, not white.
“I don’t think it’s gonna be Peter Parker.”

This is one of those moments where nothing should have been said at all because it isn't set in stone. Not to mention the fact that Sony and Marvel Studios' official press release clearly states that Parker's story will be told. Here's that snippet from the press release:

"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

If it's not Parker it could be Morales but as of right now — and with the film at the very beginning stage of its initial development process — this is nothing more than a rumor said on a podcast to bring some debate into the conversation.

Marvel's Spider-Man releases in theaters on July 28, 2017.
