In case you missed the memo Atlanta, Ga. has become Marvel Studios' new production hub in the United States. When the Pinewood Atlanta facility opened in summer 2014, Marvel's Ant-Man was the first blockbuster film to be based there and this spring Captain America: Civil War will base its production operations there as well.
Previously, Marvel Studios would shoot most of its films at Pinewood U.K. but with so many more movies set to begin production in the coming years, Atlanta was a logical home for Marvel's domestic production hub. Side note: Marvel Studios is not based in Atlanta because they are still based out of the Disney offices in Burbank, Calif.
Newly revealed to film at Pinewood Atlanta, after Civil War, is Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The first film shot in England and writer/director James Gunn confirmed that the sequel will head to Atlanta, in early 2016. (Later he confirmed it will start production in February 2016.)
The writer and director also said that actors Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Sean Gunn (on-set motion capture Rocket Raccoon and Kraglin) will all return for the sequel. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 releases in theaters on May 5, 2017.
