Report: Will Marvel & Sony Call it SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN? Is Drew Goddard Attached to Write & Direct?
Any Spider-Man information is golden info now that he is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest bit of new info, from the scoop website Latino Review, is one that must be shared. According to their insider sources, Sony and Marvel have not only agreed upon the writer and director but they're considering the title of Spectacular Spider-Man. Plus more!
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter is now corroborating Latino-Review's report.
Here's the bullet points from their report:
- Marvel Studios and president Kevin Feige will produce the new Spider-Man and they envision a trilogy of films.
- "Spectacular Spider-Man" is being considered as the title of the new movie.
- Former Spider-Man producer Avi Arad had to be removed from the series for Marvel Studios to be interested in taking part in the Sony partnership deal. However, Arad will get a courtesy Executive Producer title without having anything to do with the new trilogy.
- All previous Spider-Man spin-offs being considered and in development by Sony are now defunct. This includes: the female led Spider-Man spin-off movie, Venom and Sinister Six.
- Speaking of Sinister Six, while its spin-off movie is now dead-in-the-water it is not a concept that is being abandoned because the new Spider-Man movie could still create a Sinister Six spin-off later in the future.
- Writer and director of Sinister Six, Drew Goddard, will reportedly write and direct Spectacular Spider-Man.
- The new film will still have the Sinister Six in it, hence Goddard staying on board as writer/director.
- No origin tale will be told in Spectacular Spider-Man.
- Iron Man might play a big role in Spectacular Spider-Man which will more or less be Spider-Man "auditioning" for a role in the Avengers. (Obviously, Robert Downey Jr. would need to sign on for this film for this to even happen.)
- Spider-Man will be in high school and a young, possibly unknown actor will be cast in the role so he can grow up with franchise.
That's quite a bit to take in, for sure, and this will most likely open the flood gates for more Spider-Man news in the coming weeks and months. Especially if Spider-Man does appear in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War next year. Civil War is supposed to start filming in Atlanta this spring, so an actor name could be attached to the role of Spider-Man sooner than later.
