Well that happened fast and came out of left field. Marvel and Netflix have officially announced that DAREDEVIL has been ordered for Season 2 and it will release in 2016.
This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone who has seen Season 1. It was very good to the point that both fans and critics really liked it. But this comes as a bit of a shock because this may affect the timeline for THE DEFENDERS mini-series event.
THE DEFENDERS was originally planned to release on Netflix after DAREDEVIL, A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE and IRON FIST. Now, another season of DAREDEVIL is thrown into the mix which could (and probably will) change up the release schedule. Probably pushing back THE DEFENDERS another year, but that's just a guess.
Marvel and Netflix also announced Season 1 executive producer and showrunner Steven DeKnight will not return to those roles, due to a prior commitment. Two of DeKnight's associates for Season 1 will take over as exec. producers and showrunners.
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season," DeKnight said via Marvel.com, "I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."
