AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Hero Screen Time - Captain America Gets the Most While Thor Takes a Backseat

As of late, some Marvel fans have begun to complain about too many characters being in Marvel Studios' films. This is actually happening right now, in some circles, after Marvel released the gigantic cast list for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Not all characters will get a lot of screen time, but the Avengers films will have lots of characters in them because it's an Avengers movie (of course).

Regarding AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and all of its heroes, the website Vulture has timed out how much screen time your heroes approximately had. Note: Vulture says they sent interns to the theater and each one used the stopwatch function on their smart phone to come up with these times... so it's not an exact time, but close enough.

Here's their list from least screen time to most:

  • Vision - 8:41 (minutes:seconds)
  • Thor - 14:18
  • Clint Barton / Hawkeye - 19:56
  • Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch - 20:59
  • Bruce Banner / Hulk - 23:55
  • Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver - 26:43
  • Black Widow - 33:07
  • Tony Stark / Iron Man - 45:34
  • Steve Rogers / Captain America - 50:25

Vision doesn't have much screen time because he wasn't introduced until the third Act of the film. But the most shocking result is that Thor took a backseat to the rest. While this is somewhat okay, since he has his own solo movies, it's still surprising especially with how much screen time Rogers and Stark received. This was probably done in order to help set up CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

Another surprise is that Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon told the media (a lot) how there would be increased screen time there would be for Hawkeye and Hulk in the sequel. While there was solid character development for each of them, in Age of Ultron, the screen time numbers really don't display all the hype Whedon put into it.
