Fox is a busy Marvel super hero factory who is in post-production with FANTASTIC FOUR and filming both DEADPOOL and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE right now. Also, it has been previously confirmed that Fox is actively developing an X-FORCE movie with writer/director Jeff Wadlow.
Now you can add NEW MUTANTS to the list of mutant properties that Fox is actively developing. According to Deadline, Fox has signed on Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) to co-write and direct NEW MUTANTS.
This should come as exciting news and Fox is pushing to expand their X-Men, Fantastic Four and mutant movie universe to be as large as Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe and Warner's newly growing DC Cinematic Universe.
In the comic book universe, the New Mutants consisted of a bunch of different mutant heroes. The comic book was taken over by creator Rob Liefeld in the early 1990s and he introduced the comic book world to highly popular mutant characters like Deadpool (issue No. 98), Cable (issue No. 87) and Domino (issue No. 98) — just to name just a few. In New Mutants No. 100, Liefeld then revealed the first appearance of the X-Force team.
Rumors have been swirling for a while that Cable would eventually get his big screen debut and perhaps NEW MUTANTS is the means of this finally happening. Stay tuned because more is sure to develop with this story.
