There's been rumors circling the web about an actor short list for Marvel Studios' and Sony's next Spider-Man and it sounds like the two studios have agreed to enter negotiations with actor Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game). This is according to the website Latino-Review who have a solid and accurate track record when it comes to casting scoops.
UPDATE: Deadline has now confirmed this report with their own sources, although they state that since the deal isn't finalized there are still other actors who could be in contention if talks with Butterfield's reps fall through.
Butterfield is 18-years-old but looks like he's closer to 15- or 16-years-old. This is exactly what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige wanted for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. In previous interviews, Feige has said that this version of Spider-Man will be a young kid who really doesn't fit in with all the other adult super heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio head has also teased that Spidey's non-stop wit will be in the next Spider-Man movie.
Rumored to be making his intro during CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR next year, it makes sense that Butterfield is being hired now since he'll probably be filming his scene(s) sometime in the next few months while Civil War is still shooting in Atlanta. Then Butterfield will start filming his first Spider-Man movie sometime in mid-2016 for its July 2017 release.
