So Maybe SPIDER-MAN Hasn't Been Cast Yet; Screen Tests in Atlanta Reveal Final Actor Short List

Two weeks ago a report hit the Internet stating Sony and Marvel Studios had found the actor who would be the next Spider-Man, and it was actor Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game). Well... it seems like that report might have been too soon because The Hollywood Reporter is now saying screen tests took place for the role in Atlanta yesterday, Saturday May 30.

"Tom Holland, who appeared as one of Naomi Watts' sons in the acclaimed tsunami drama The Impossible, and Asa Butterfield, the child star from Hugo and Ender's Game, were the best known of the contenders. The other four hopefuls included: Judah Lewis (a relative newbie who will be seen in the Jean Marc-Vallee's fall drama Demolition), Matthew Lintz (who will be seen with Adam Sandler in this summer's Pixels), Charlie Plummer (who had a recurring gig on Boardwalk Empire) and Charlie Rowe (a British actor who appeared on Fox's short-lived Red Band Society)."

The Hollywood Reporter also states that the previous report saying Butterfield was in negotiations for the role were false because Sony and Marvel Studios were still in the middle of making a final decision and they obviously wanted every actor in contention to do a full screen test. The reason the screen tests were done in Atlanta is due to the fact that CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is being filmed there right now. The actor testing was done in front of Sony producer Amy Pascal, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and Civil War and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART I & II directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

Age is a big factor in this casting process. Feige has said, previously, that he wants an actor who not only looks young and like he's still in high school but who is in his teens and not in his late 20s or early 30s and just looks young.

Finally, The Hollywood Reporter claims the alleged official casting decision will happen within the next week. So stay tuned...
