STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Begins Filming This Summer so Here Comes Casting Announcements



Set to begin filming this summer in the U.K., STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE (directed by Gareth Edwards) is set before STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE and follows a group of Rebel fighters who are on a mission to steal the plans of the original Death Star. At Star Wars Celebration Anaheim it was confirmed, by Lucasfilm, actor Felicity Jones will star in the first Star Wars Anthology spin-off movie as one of those Rebel fighters.

Today, Variety is reporting that the Rogue One cast is growing.

"Director Gareth Edwards has found another rebel fighter to battle the Empire in 'Star Wars: Rogue One.' Sources tell Variety that Diego Luna has landed a lead role opposite Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, with Ben Mendelsohn set to star as the film’s primary villain."

Previously, there were rumors that Riz Ahmed and Ben Mendelshon could have been casted in this film and this report by Variety more or less confirms it. Although, Disney and Lucasfilm have not commented on any castings outside of Jones.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE releases on December 16, 2016.
