ANT-MAN Director Peyton Reed Would Do a Sequel or a Prequel: "There's a Lot of Story to Tell With Hank Pym"

Just the other day Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told the website io9 that a future Marvel Cinematic Universe movie could take place in the past. Many were assuming part of BLACK PANTHER could take place in the past telling the story of the mantle of the Black Panther in Wakanda.

"Certainly we could [set another one in the past]. There are no rules. I think the majority of them will be chronological, but not all of them necessarily."

While I didn't write about this here on the site, when I read the above quote from Feige I actually thought, 'What if Marvel did an ANT-MAN prequel movie that featured Hank Pym as the tiny hero but 40 years prior and in his prime?'

It now seems like my thought could be more true than I could have expected as ANT-MAN director Peyton Reed said (via ComicBook) he wouldn't mind doing a sequel or a prequel.

"Listen, if we were lucky enough to be able to do a sequel or even a prequel, I'd be way into it. I've really fallen in love with these characters. I was always in love with the characters in the comic book world but there's a lot of story to tell with Hank Pym."

This isn't impossible for Marvel Studios if when ANT-MAN hits big in the box office. Paul Rudd is signed on for three more MCU appearances after CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, so a sequel is definitely possible and built into his contract.

If the studio wanted to go prequel, Marvel could easily place it anywhere in their Phase 3 timeline since it would be more of a period piece, standalone movie. An ANT-MAN prequel really wouldn't need to fall in line with Phase 3's chronological timeline of events.
