Phil Lord & Chris Miller Should Bring Miles Morales to the Mainstream in Their Animated SPIDER-MAN Movie
Editorial: If THE LEGO MOVIE was any indication as to what kind of animated Spider-Man movie we will get from the writer/director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller then it will be family friendly, funny and loads of fun.
Back in April, at CinemaCon, Sony officially announced that Lord & Miller would be teaming up with the studio to bring a full length, standalone animated Spider-Man movie to the big screen. This came out of left field and was met with praise as the duo have cemented themselves as one of the hottest Hollywood creators right now after having several hit movies in a row.
At the same time, it is known that Sony has partnered up with Marvel Studios in order to bring a live action Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Peter Parker will be mingling with the Avengers. Since Parker will be hanging with the Avengers it really doesn't make sense to have the Lord & Miller animated Spider-Man movie also featuring Parker. This is why their animated film should focus on Miles Morales.
Morales is a newer hero in the comics and he was created by longtime Marvel creator Brian Michael Bendis for Marvel's Ultimates comic book universe. In the time since Morales' creation and introduction into the comic book world, in 2011, his popularity has skyrocketed. Morales is the first diverse Spider-Man since he of Black Hispanic decent. Comic fans immediately fell in love with the new hero since he was a version of Spider-Man never seen before. And his popularity continues to increase to this day and he has since been seen in the Disney XD animated ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series, too. (To read more about Miles Morales' Spider-Man, click here.)
Bringing Morales to a much larger and mainstream audience in Lord & Miller's animated Spider-Man film makes perfect sense. Especially since this will be a standalone film which won't be a part of the MCU. If comic fans really love him, there's a very good chance the general population will fall in love with him too.
Peter Parker will rule the live action MCU big screen with the Avengers but Miles Morales should rule the animated big screen.
