SPIDER-MAN: 5 Facts and 5 Rumors About Marvel Studios and Sony's Big Reboot


Not much is really known about the new SPIDER-MAN. But there are some facts as well as some rumors. Let's start with five facts (in no particular order).

  • Fact No. 1: Actor Tom Holland has been cast as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and will be a high school student.
  • Fact No. 2: Jon Watts will direct the movie.
  • Fact No. 3: Sony is financing the film and distributing its theatrical release, but Marvel Studios is producing the next Spider-Man movie. Sony receives all the movie profits while Disney / Marvel receives all merchandise profits.
  • Fact No. 4: The next Spider-Man movie releases on July 28, 2017.
  • Fact No. 5: This version of Spider-Man will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he will be wittier and funnier than past films have portrayed the hero.


Now let's look at its five RUMORS (again, in no particular order).

  • Rumor No. 1: The film could be called MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN or SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN or FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN or SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER.
  • Rumor No. 2: Matthew McConaughey could be targeted for a villain role.
  • Rumor No. 3: Drew Goddard might be writing the script and adapting his old SINISTER SIX spin-off story into this movie.
  • Rumor No. 4: This could be the start of a trilogy of Spider-Man movies starting with Parker as a sophomore in high school and concluding with him graduating.
  • Rumor No. 5: Spider-Man could be first introduced in the MCU via a cameo in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. (Several Hollywood trade websites have reported this will happen but Marvel and Sony have confirmed nothing.)
