Today brings a slew of STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY rumors. In case you've been off-the-grid (and this is not a pun at TRON 3 being canceled... too soon, man!) an Anthology movie is a spin-off that is not a part of the Episodic film timeline while still being a part of official Star Wars story canon.
First, let's start with the second STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY movie which has already been reported to feature Boba Fett. According to a new rumor report, not only will Boba Fett be in the film but it may also have a young Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrission. Lucasfilm is also rumored to be interested in either Jon Favreau (IRON MAN, IRON MAN 2) or Matthew Vaughn (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) to direct. This is not the first time Boba Fett has been rumored to get his own film and back in January 2014 a rumor first hit the web.
Next rumor is surrounding Yoda and we have to go back to September 2013 to when a rumor about a Yoda spin-off was first reported. This new rumor report claims that Yoda might get the third Anthology film after the rumored Boba Fett movie. A Yoda spin-off may tell the story of a much younger Yoda. It can be speculated this potential film could see Yoda in training to be a Jedi or as a very powerful Jedi Master sans the need for his cane and the grey hairs. Whether or not this is a plausible story to tell is unknown because Yoda would need a lot of CG and a live action supporting character would need to be added to make sure the film isn't too CG-heavy.
Finally, the biggest rumor of all, is the possibility of an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off. But this rumor report is not for an Anthology film but for a hopeful Kenobi trilogy of movies. Actor Ewan McGregor is also allegedly being courted by Lucasfilm to reprise his role as the Jedi Master — and McGregor has been very vocal and open to returning in the past — and could tell the tale of his adventures in seclusion on Tatooine while watching over Luke Skywalker.
All of these need to be treated as rumor because even the source of these rumors (SchmoesKnow) say themselves that these are all unconfirmed.
My Take: I just want to inject my own opinion on these rumors. I like a Boba Fett movie but I'm not sure I want to see Han Solo in it in a hero role and I'd rather see Boba Fett portrayed as an anti-hero hero in his own spin-off. I love the idea of a younger Yoda movie because he should be shown as one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy as he surely was when he was young. And bringing back McGregor as Kenobi is a MUST but not as a trilogy... at least not yet. Give Kenobi a solo movie at first and see how that goes before commiting the character to a trilogy.
