FANTASTIC FOUR Budget Issues Led to Delays in Early 2014 Where Production Crews Were Left in Limbo for Weeks

Exclusive: There's been a lot of drama surrounding the FANTASTIC FOUR reboot and here comes another bit of information to add to the pile.

The Daily SuperHero is exclusively reporting that there were initial budget disagreements way back in early 2014. An inside production source has confirmed to me FANTASTIC FOUR was originally set to begin filming in early-to-mid March 2014 but didn't because of the budget delay. The source was specific enough to say many of the leading crew members were caught in a stand still for weeks before knowing how much money they had to work with.

Some of the previously reported issues include director Josh Trank allegedly being tough to work with during filming on set and on location. Also, he allegedly needed help in post-production from producer Simon Kinberg and several others. However, this has all been denied several times by Trank himself in previous interviews and on social media.

This comes at a time when FANTASTIC FOUR is set to release in theaters on August 7 and sometimes dirty laundry likes to show itself at a time when it will be noticed the most. But the budget delay seemed to become so intense that some of the production crew didn't even think it would be able to successfully execute the movie that producers and 20th Century Fox really wanted because there was no contact from the higher ups regarding allotted dollar amounts.

In the end, the budget was settled on — per the LA Times it is approximately $122 million — and filming started in May 2014. No big deal, but the fact some of the crew were left standing around for several weeks with nothing to do now looks to be the start of what has been widely reported as a production nightmare in pre-production, principle photography and post-production.

Hopefully all will be forgotten when it releases in theaters because all that matters is the amount of money it makes in the box office. Money makes things better in Hollywood.
