It Really Does Sound Like Marvel Studios is Considering an ANT-MAN Prequel Movie Starring a Younger Hank Pym

Three days ago, a report hit the web with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige saying that producing a film based in the past wasn't out of the question. The day after, another report hit with ANT-MAN director Peyton Reed saying he would be happy to come back to direct a sequel OR a prequel because he would like to tell more stories about Hank Pym.

Today, Marvel has released an interview with Feige who talks a lot about how Pym and his past connects ANT-MAN to the much larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it's the way he talks about Pym's past that really should raise some eyebrows about the potential that an ANT-MAN prequel movie starring a young Pym could be a topic of discussion in his office right now.

"[Ant-Man] very much has its roots grounded in the mythology of the cinematic universe, and it’s connected, via Hank Pym, to a period of time that relates to Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. The mid-days of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s, which was a period we haven’t seen of [yet]. We’ve seen glimpses of it in news articles and things throughout the other films.
"[Pym] does not have a great experience with the people that he thinks are running things today. Howard [Stark], in particular, he had a not-great encounter with in the past, and that’s why [Pym] hung it up. That’s why he put [the suit] in a secured vault for decades and decades, and it’s not until this movie that he has a reason to take it out again. Not because he wants there to be another super hero named Ant-Man, but because he needs to pull off a heist. He needs to stop his villainous ex-protégé from perpetuating this technology in nefarious ways.”

Feige continued to talk about Pym's past.

“There’s a lot of back story to get across in this movie [about] what Hank did in his past. We see some of it. We hear about a lot of it. But it’s not about the trial and error of inventing the Pym Particle. The Pym Particle is [already] invented. He has been on adventures as Ant-Man beforehand.
"Frankly, we can focus more on the character stuff instead of the science stuff."

So what can fans learn from all of this? I can only tell you what my gut is telling me and I think Feige might be considering an ANT-MAN prequel movie starring a younger Pym and his adventures in the suit right now. My gut also says that Feige has recently been exploring more ideas of Pym's past while sitting in at his desk. Feige might have realized there's a prequel movie sitting in front of him with all the Pym back story he and the ANT-MAN writers and Reed have already developed.

Regardless of my opinion it seems obvious to say that there are definitely stories to tell about Pym (and maybe the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne) and his past and Marvel Studios has yet to try a prequel movie. And if Marvel does consider a prequel, then one for ANT-MAN sounds like the most logical choice.

I'll even share a prequel title suggestion I saw on Reddit because I think it would make perfect the title... call it 'THE ORIGINAL ANT-MAN.'
