SDCC 2015 Interview, Part 1: LEGO Marvel's Avengers is a Celebration of the Avengers Movies and Comic Book History

If you haven't played LEGO Marvel Super Heroes then you really need to get with the times because it's one of the best LEGO games made to date. The game is so good that Marvel Games decided to make another one. LEGO Marvel's Avengers is coming out this fall/winter and while a release date has yet to be officially announced, the game debuted at E3 in June. Marvel Games also brought LEGO Marvel's Avengers to San Diego Comic-Con 2015.

The Daily SuperHero was one of a few press members who were invited to sit down and talk with Marvel Games' creative director Bill Rosemann and executive producer Mike Jones, along with TT Games' producer Matt Ellison. The guys couldn't reveal too much, but they did reveal some new things about the game.

This is Part 1 of a 3-part interview talking about how the Avenger' history has been incorporated into the new game.

On how this new LEGO game is all about the Avengers:

Mike Jones: It's not just cinematic content, that's the main story content... from THE AVENGERS to AGE OF ULTRON... but there's the whole open world aspect and we're celebrating the Avengers with over 100 new playable characters that weren't even in the last game. And they're all from the comic universe.

Bill Rosemann: We opened up the [Marvel comic book] vaults and went deep and said, 'This is going to be the ultimate LEGO Avengers game. And it's going to celebrate all-things Avengers and we have to go through all the back issues from the 60s until today.' And we went through and thought about who hasn't been in the game... what Avengers foes... what Avengers allies... what new Avengers and we looked at what's happening now [in the comics] and what's going to happen and tried to bring that into the game.

On how this game will educate everyone about the Avengers:

MJ: It's an opportunity to educate people about [the history of] the Avengers.

BR: Even if you haven't read the comics we want to make sure it's very accessible. So we can say, 'Here's this character and you may not know who they were but they fought with the Avengers here [in the comics] and LEGO Marvel's Avengers is where you can learn about them.'

Matt Ellison: We have quite a young audience for our games and this might be their first instance of knowing Marvel and it's a great way to educate [a new and young audience].
