SDCC 2015: Marvel Games Talks About the Possibility of More Console Games and of MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3
At San Diego Comic-Con 2015, The Daily SuperHero had a chance to speak with Marvel Games about the future of their video game business. The past few years Marvel Games has been heavily focused on their LEGO games and mobile gaming.
So what about non-LEGO console games for adults? Well, I asked Marvel Games' creative director Bill Rosemann and executive producer Mike Jones about it and I dropped the game title 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3' which instantly got smiles from both of them. Maybe that's a sign or maybe that's just a common question but here's their responses.
"We are well aware of the... hey, I love those games... and we are well aware of the super fans out there," Jones said. "It takes time to do it right and you can trust us that we are hard at work thinking about all those things.
"The goal with all those games is if we're going to do another one — and there's this awesome thing that existed before that everyone loved with an awesome pedigree — if you can't do it bigger and badder and better, and I mean badder in the good sense, if you can't do that then don't do it," Rosemann said. "Wait until we can align everything and let's have all the plans aligned and put all of our focus on it months and months and months. And let's not just do a sequel. Let's add new characters, let's add teamwork, let's raise the bar. And if we can't do that, then don't do it.
"We're not in the business of doing licensing deals and walking away," Jones continued. "We want to collaborate, we want to be partners to create games that mean things to people. Not just as a business exercise but a meaningful experience and a way for people to celebrate their Marvel fandom. We are very focused on the products, the user experience and the player."
While their collective answer doesn't really say if there is or isn't 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3' coming for consoles, it did seem clear to me that they know fans want this franchise to continue. In fact, 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3' has such a huge fan backing for it that it is very similar to the huge fan backing for Lucasfilm to continue the 'Star Wars: Battlefront' franchise... and they are doing just that later this year.
Maybe 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3' is on the planning table right now, too. It certainly seems like both Rosemann and Jones would be on board to make it happen but at the same time they said they will not rush any video game out just to get it out.
