'Vacation' Writers Confirm They Are Writing the New SPIDER-MAN Movie

This doesn't seem like a very Marvel Studios way of announcing new writers of the next SPIDER-MAN movie, but this is also a Sony Pictures movie production as well. Maybe Sony gave the green lit to talk about it so screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have confirmed they are writing SPIDER-MAN while speaking with NPR.

"We can finally acknowledge that," Daley confirmed. "This is the first time that we can say that we are writing [Spider-Man].

"[Peter Parker is] a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor," Daley continued. "It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he's coming from."

Goldstein seems happy to be able to finally talk about it because he said, "We've been saying 'no comment' for the last week. We're thrilled."

The duo recently wrote the new comedy Vacation which is a soft reboot of the Vacation franchise previously starring Chevy Chase. It now features the son Rusty, played by Ed Helms, who is all grown up and hits theaters later this month.

Starring Tom Holland and directed by Jon Watts, the still untitled SPIDER-MAN movie is scheduled to begin filming in summer 2016 and releases on July 28, 2017.
