DOCTOR STRANGE: Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor Officially Confirms He's in it

Back in June a report hit the web saying that actor Chiwetel Ejiofor was being targeted for the villain role of Baron Mordo in DOCTOR STRANGE. During Disney's D23 Expo 2015 one of the quick glimpses Marvel Studios showed of DOCTOR STRANGE concept art had an image of Baron Mordo and it looked like it was based on Ejiofor's likeness.

While there has been no official confirmation by Marvel as to if that was indeed Ejiofor's likeness, the actor has now confirmed (via Entertainment Weekly) he does have a role in the film.

“I am doing Doctor Strange, and I’m incredibly excited about it. That’s all I say.”

Again, no confirmation as to him being Baron Mordo but based on the initial report and the D23 Expo concept art, it's all but officially confirmed by the studio at this point. Ejiofor was then asked about working with Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton (Ancient One).

“He’s a good friend of mine... So, it’s gonna be fun. And Tilda Swinton — I haven’t worked with her, but I’m excited to work with her. She’s brilliant.”

In the comics, Mordo is alongside Stephen Strange as they are both apprentices vying for the Ancient One to choose one of them to be the next Master of the Mystic Arts. Strange is chosen and Mordo is not happy about that and he turns villain. It is not yet known if the adapted movie version of Mordo will follow a similar path.

DOCTOR STRANGE begins filming in London this November and releases a year later on November 4, 2016.
