Since Disney Cannot Have Marvel in Their Orlando Theme Parks a Disneyland Expansion is Probably in the Works
First of all, some clarity on the first part of this headline. Before Disney bought Marvel Entertainment, Universal licensed theme park rights from Marvel for their Universal Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando. Then when Disney bought Marvel a deal was brokered with Universal where east of the Mississippi River Disney can't have Marvel in their theme parks but west of the Mississippi Disney can have Marvel in their parks.
This means a Marvel theme park addition will eventually come to Disneyland. Disney has reportedly bought a bunch of land around its Anaheim park and it seems like they are about to add both Star Wars and Marvel to Disneyland soon.
A Star Wars addition (see this link at the end of this post) might be coming sooner than Marvel and could be officially announced at their D23 Expo this weekend. Meanwhile, there is a rumor that a Marvel addition is actively being planned as well. This rumor comes from the website MiceChat and they already have the alleged Marvel expansion mapped out below.
As of right now, there is no confirmation from Disney this is happening but logic dictates a Marvel addition is coming to Anaheim since Orlando cannot have any Marvel characters in Disney's theme parks. It's only a matter of time until Disney makes this official and maybe it'll be done at D23.
Definitely stayed tuned as The Daily SuperHero has press access to D23 to (hopefully) give you the best coverage possible!
