Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige Reportedly Threaten to Quit Which Led to Disney CEO Bob Iger Taking Action

Earlier this week, news broke that Marvel Studios would no longer be under the direction and control of Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter. Instead Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn would oversee the Marvel film division moving forward. Also, it was reported the former creative committee in place — who gave notes on movies in development — was being disbanded and studio head Kevin Feige and his executive team would have more creative control for Phase 3 films. (See these previous story links below.)

According to another new report by The Hollywood Reporter, Feige became so frustrated with Perlmutter and the committee during the production of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR he reportedly threatened to leave Marvel Studios because of budget squeezes and alleged micromanaging. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger was said to have stepped in and he was the one who ordered a restructuring of who the studio and Feige reported to in order to not only keep Feige but to ease the stressful working environment which was been building up. Finally, the creative committee is said to have not been disbanded but it is now "nominal at best" if needed for any future film production notations.

The following was told to THR via industry insiders:

"New York wanted to scale [Civil War] down," says one insider. "New York had a big say for a long time, but hasn't Kevin earned the right to some autonomy? He's made the company billions. Why is he reporting to a 72-year-old man who doesn't make movies?" asks [another] insider.

All in all this may sound like it was and could have been a much scarier situation within the confines of Marvel Studios, but now that the film division is under the care and supervision of Horn there should be much calmer waters ahead. [In theory.]
