GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2: Matthew McConaughy Reportedly Turned Down Villain Role

In a bit of weird news — because you usually don't hear about actors who turn down roles until after a movie is released — Variety is reporting that Matthew McConaughy turned down the role of the villain in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.

Some may applaud this news, while others may hate it, but the fact of the matter is that McConaughy has been rumored to be up for a role in a Marvel Studios movie for quite some time. Even dating back to being one of the rumored names the studio might have been looking at for the title role in DOCTOR STRANGE.

Now it is a fact that McConaughy will not be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at least not in Guardians Vol. 2. Who the actor may have been up for could have been: the High Evolutionary, Adam Warlock and Magnus to name a few. But Marvel and director James Gunn has yet to confirm who the main villain will be in the sequel.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 begins filming in Atlanta this February and releases on May 5, 2017.
