Exclusive: It was only a matter of time until one studio green lit what would be considered a 'team-up' movie. The Daily SuperHero has been hearing lots of buzz about Fox considering a DEADPOOL sequel, tentatively titled 'Deadpool and Cable,' ever since director Tim Miller hinted Cable could be included in a sequel.
While this is not confirmed, and just insider talk being heard right now, Marvel Studios giving a green light for ANT-MAN AND THE WASP has gotten studios thinking more along the lines of 'team-up' movies instead of a solo film for a hero. And this is what my one insider just told me. Studios who want more spin-off or solo movies outside of big ensemble films are now considering 'team-ups.'
In my opinion, this is a much easier way to grow a singular and cohesive multi-franchise movie universe. Especially if you take one really popular character and add another. It's an easy way to bring in fans of two heroes instead of just one and, in theory, should also help with box office results too.
As of right now, nothing has been confirmed but there's definitely some talk behind closed doors at studios now that Marvel Studios has paved the way of 'team-up' movies in the very near future. Of course things do change in the movie biz... so much so that this current 'team-up' movie talk could change into something else sooner than later, or completely fall off. But this is what studio executives and producers are talking about this week so more '[Hero name here] and [Hero name here]' movies could be on the way.
