Marvel TV Gets into the Mutant Business With 2 New X-Men Series: HELLFIRE on Fox and LEGION on FX

In August, word got out that Fox wanted to get into the X-Men television business but they were awaiting for approval from Marvel to approve any possible TV show based on mutants. Despite any alleged drama between Marvel and Fox — it is said that Marvel hates the fact Fox has the X-Men movie rights and is quite annoyed about it — Marvel TV is getting into the television show biz with Fox; as not one but two new mutant-based series are green lit.

The first will be developed for Fox and has the working title HELLFIRE. Marvel has confirmed the following synopsis for the series.

"Set in the late 1960s, the series – which will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling the physical production – follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as 'The Hellfire Club' – to take over the world."

The second will be developed for Fox-owned FX and is called LEGION. Marvel has confirmed the show will introduce and follow David Haller, who, in the comics, is the anti-hero son of Charles Xavier with the mutant name Legion (above image).

"Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real."

In the comics, Haller has the following powers: Telepathy, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, time travel and reality warping. It remains to be seen if all of these powers will also be adapted for LEGION.
