THOR: RAGNAROK Confirmed to Film in Australia in June 2016

In August, rumor hit that Marvel Studios was considering to filming THOR: RAGNAROK in Australia, which would be right in the backyard of actor Chris Hemsworth since he calls the country home and has his family there. But right after that initial report, a contradictory one said Ragnarok might film in Atlanta instead.

Well, AusFilm has confirmed THOR: RAGNAROK will indeed film in Australia.

"Ausfilm today welcomed the announcement by the Australian Government through the Minister for Communications and Minister for the Arts, Senator the Hon. Mitch Fifield and Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Julie Bishop, of its financial support to attract two major international film productions from two of Hollywood’s biggest studios. The Australian Government is helping to secure both Marvel Studios’ (owned by The Walt Disney Company) Thor: Ragnarok and 20th Century Fox’s untitled Ridley Scott Alien project."

So far, in 2016, Marvel Studios will film GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 in Atlanta in February and THOR: RAGNAROK in Australia (in the last half of 2016). The still untitled SPIDER-MAN movie is the studios' other film which will need to go into production in mid-2016, so look for that production news to be revealed sooner than later.

THOR: RAGNAROK releases on November 3, 2017.

UPDATE: Here is further confirmation from Marvel's press release:

"Marvel's 'Thor: Ragnarok,' the third installment of the Marvel Studios’ franchise starring Australia’s Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding comic book Super Hero, has today been confirmed to start pre-production in Queensland in January 2016 with filming to begin in June 2016."
