AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 3 Episode 7: Everyone Knows Who Lash is Now

This week’s episode of AGENTS OF SHIELD presented viewers with a lot of information. Not only that, but the show continues to move towards something of a conclusion at a lightning pace. Instead of having May harbor the secret of Andrew’s true identity for a few episodes — or at the very least until the midseason finale — we got right into the action. Something that seems to be SHIELD’s new motto for this season.

May immediately confronted Andrew as soon as she could. She had to be sure that Stucker's son wasn’t lying. That’s fair, but part of me wondered if that such a smart idea, especially for someone who is usually so calm and collected. The fact that she got captured made sense and it’s here that I thought the plot would wait until next week to resolve.

Thankfully Lincoln came to the rescue out of nowhere and led the SHIELD crew to Andrew’s lair where they rescue May. It was here that we saw Coulson take action once again. He’s definitely stopped being the “wait and see” type and I’m enjoying that. It’s nice to see SHIELD get ahead of the game instead of waiting to see how things play out without them.

Like I mentioned above, Lincoln’s appearance in this episode was somewhat random. It felt like the writer’s didn’t really know how to get everyone together so they just sort of stuck him in there. And yet again his hotheadedness got everyone in trouble and made Andrew transform. It was here that I thought Lincoln would actually get killed by Lash, cementing Andrew as something of a villain. Lash clearly felt the need to kill the Inhumans, I just wish that we got a clearer reason as to why. Was it some kind of vampirism? Or does he believe himself to be an agent of cleansing?

At the very least he’s contained at the moment and in the custody of the ACTU. Speaking of which, Coulson and Rosalind got a little cozy at the end of the episode. It was bound to happen considering the chemistry between the two. The question of course… is whether Rosalind is actually a member of Hydra or is being played. Hydra, after all, is supposed to be defunct. So the fact they could have more agents in high ranking areas such as the leader of the ACTU seems like a bit of a stretch. That said if she were Hydra, May would no longer be the only SHIELD member to accidentally sleep with a Hydra mole.

The rest of the episode seemed to drag a little, putting little pieces here and there to spread the good stuff out. Fitz got a look at Simmons’ phone and all the videos she took before the phone died. Unfortunately for him that also meant getting surprised by a photo of Will and Simmons together. His emotion throughout seeing all of that and then again when he saw what Simmons’ thought was to be her final farewell was amazing. Fitz and Simmons have really come into their own as characters and I appreciate seeing their relationship develop.

My only issue here is the issue I’ve had all season. I don’t get where things are headed yet. If Rosalind is a part of Hydra then it’s possible that they were picking up Inhumans to create an army or something like that. But that doesn’t explain how Simmons storyline ties into everything. At the moment it feels like a completely different show on that end.
