DEADPOOL to Have Origin Flashbacks and Takes Place in Modern Day Creating 3 Ongoing X-Men Movie Timelines
Actor Ryan Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick hope you're ready for another origin movie. They spoke with Collider during their DEADPOOL movie set visit in Vancouver earlier this year and confirmed DEADPOOL will have an origin story.
"When we first pitched Deadpool to [Ryan Reynolds], it was not an origin story, interestingly, because we thought origin stories were old-fashioned, and Ryan was the one who said, 'No, it needs to be an origin story' and so I think it was kind of his choc but then our peanut butter in the sense that we decided to kind of do a modern story and an origin story and link them with the sort of five-year flashbacks."
The interesting thing about all of this is that Colossus is in this movie which means he is in modern day whereas there are two other X-Men movie universe timelines going on right now with one following the First Class cast and the other about a decade into the future with the original X-Men cast. So this make three timelines.
Some fans may moan and groan at Fox for all the timelines, in fact Deadpool himself made fun of Fox for this just the other day, but here's hoping that next summer's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE creates a little more cohesiveness with all these timelines.
DEADPOOL releases on February 12, 2016.
